Christmas comes early at the Pie

With arguably one of the best home performances in a number of seasons, the Shrimps see off second placed Bournemouth with a stunning first half display of football fitting of a higher stage.

The Bournemouth victory was Morecambe's seventh league win in a row with the extra bonus being the last five matches ending in clean sheets making the Shrimps the form team not only in Division 4 but the rest of the England as well (should keep the doom lords happy).

Stew Drummond opened the scoring on the quarter of an hour mark with a deft flick past the keeper from a cross by Twiss, the second was a goal of the week contender with a dipping volly from the edge of the box by Stanners and the third came from arguably the outfield player of the season (so far) Loz Wilson Esq with a wonderfully weighted right footed curler into the top left corner of the Bournemouth onion bag - fcukin' magic and with Bournemouth's midfielder Bartley picking up a straight red for a two footed lunge on Drummond a few minutes before half time things were looking rosey for the second half.

Cheers, big ears..

The second half was a damp squib compared to the first but to round things off Jevons calmly slotted home a penalty on 50mins and Duffy lobbed the keeper in added on time at the end of the half to send Shrimp's fans home happy with a perfect early Christmas present of three points and a place in the Play-Offs..

"This is my second spell at Morecambe, and it is the strongest squad we've assembled, there's a great deal to be positive about."
Stewart Drummond, 12th December 2009.
